Dear families of Walled Lake, Wixom, and Commerce,
A couple of weeks ago, our three, 5th grade classes went to the Hospitality House to donate cans. We raised almost 1000 pounds of food. That’s a big amount. We didn’t realize how many people we helped. Can you imagine donating that much food? We felt really good after we donated that much food. I’m urging everyone to donate food to your local charities.
Our community has lots of people in need such as adults and kids. Kids our age are starving because their parents have to make really hard decisions whether to buy food or pay bills. Luckily the Hospitality House is here to help. Can you imagine coming home from school and not having a snack or dinner because you can’t afford to buy food?
I feel that people don’t understand how many people the Hospitality House serves. It has served 4,368 families, 10,900 individuals, 4,059 children and all together they raised 199,858 pounds of food in just 9 months. And sometimes they still run out of food. Still run out of food, can you imagine that? Now you see there are a lot of people in need of food, and they still have to make a decision because they don’t have the money.
And how good will you feel when you know you donated part of that amount or donated part of your time? Michigan’s economy is getting worse, people are losing their jobs. And you might be the next person to lose your job. Thankfully, there are Hospitality Houses and other charities that can help, but only if people donate.
But how bad will you feel when you never thought of helping a charity and when you’re in need, they still care about you and help you? So go out there and help your community any way you can. Guess what you are not only helping the needy, but you are helping yourself by being a good person and helping everyone you can. This sets a good example for your kids. I bet you it will change your life forever and you will feel really good inside like it did for me
